Most importantly, bravo to all of the children. On the day of their “big show” they all wore their costumes (and kept them on!) and braved stage fright to face a fairly large audience filled with family members and schoolmates. Not only did the children remember their lines and songs, but they also performed their roles with enthusiasm and gusto. The outcome was spectacular and we are very proud of them.

The award was granted by the French Minister of Education, Luc Chatel. Mme. d’Angosse Perlman will be honored by the Consul Général de France, M. Christophe Guilhou, at an upcoming reception.

When you ask your children what they did at preschool, what do they tell you? Do they tell you about everything they learned? Or the friends they made? Or the adventures they had?

 We have noticed that some preschoolers simply say, “I don’t know” or “nothing.” Well, we decided to take a little bit of a closer look at what “nothing” really means at The Teddy Bear Club!

I Did “Nothing” Today

Today I built a castle with a friend.

I spelled my name,

And counted up to ten in French.

I poured juice in my cup,

And wiped the table clean.

I said merci and s’il vous plaît,

That’s the French way!

I counted, measured, stacked,

And even sorted bugs;

I learned about lifecycles on the way.

I matched cylinders, sound bottles, and colored bears.

I used magnets, castanets and egg shakers.

I learned about the weather, “la météo,” as they say.

And I know today is Wednesday.

So, if I say I did “nothing” today,

“Nothing” is all of that, that’s what I’m trying to say.

You see I’m sharing as I play.

I learned to sit during circle and listen,

To wait my turn, and when inside to walk.

To say hello in French, and citrouille,

And yellow, and leaf, and even grenouille!

To find my name on my blue bag,

To hang my coat all by myself.

To clean my smock once I’m done,

And place my painting on the rack.

Wow! See how proud I feel,

Today, I am l’Artiste de la Semaine!

So, if I say I did “nothing” today,

“Nothing” is all of that, that’s what I’m trying to say.

I’ve learned about apples and worms,

Remembering how to take my turn.

I held a friend’s hand as we walked,

And collected leaves, pinecones and twigs.

I danced the limbo and marched in a band.

I traced the letter S in sand,

And sailed boats to a far away land.

So, if I say I did “nothing” today,

Please, don’t say, “Did you only play today?”
